MIGS launches Global Impact Fund

Democracy is under siege. Authoritarian regimes are expanding their influence, targeting open societies through disinformation, surveillance, transnational repression, and coercive diplomacy. At the same time, the United States—the traditional global champion of human rights and democratic values—is stepping back from its leadership role. As a result, Canada and its allies must step up.

The Montreal Institute for Global Security (MIGS) has been founded to meet this moment. As Canada’s only independent think tank working at the intersection of international security, technology, and human rights, we are building the intellectual infrastructure and strategic capacity needed to strengthen democratic resilience and defend the rules-based international order.

MIGS Global Impact Fund: A Canadian Answer to a Global Challenge

The Montreal Institute for Global Security has launched the MIGS Global Impact Fund to:

Enable Proactive and Rapid Response to time-critical domestic and global security threats.

Advance High-Impact Research on areas such as authoritarian influence operations, responsible AI, and the crime of aggression.

Defend Democratic Voices through public education, policy engagement, and frontline partnerships with journalists, human rights defenders, and civil society leaders.

Promote Canadian Global Leadership through hosting world-class forums like the Montreal International Security Summit, bringing together leading thinkers and decision-makers from Canada, Europe, and the Indo-Pacific.

Build Global Alliances, offering Canada a strategic platform to collaborate with like-minded democracies in shaping a more secure and just world.

The time is ripe for a Canadian world-class institute that fills the growing gap in global democratic leadership. MIGS is uniquely positioned to do just that—based in Montreal, with deep partnerships across the Global North and South, and led by experts with decades of experience in humanitarian diplomacy, digital rights, international law, and security.

We invite visionary individuals, corporations, institutions, and foundations to join this mission by supporting the MIGS Global Impact Fund to positively shape our global future.
