Lauren Avis is a master’s student at McGill University’s Political Science department and the Institute for the Study of International Development, where she is researching Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference from Russia, as well as Russian messaging to the Western Left. She has a first-class honour’s degree in History, Politics, and Economics from University College London’s School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies. Lauren’s research also extends to Post-Soviet politics and development, with a particular focus on women, peace, and security.
Lauren has held various positions that have cemented her passion for a human-centered approach to international relations, including serving on the executive board for the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom UK, teaching ESL at Carty House, and acting as a peer mentor for the Palestinian Students and Scholars at Risk Network. She also has professional experience in journalism, litigation, and due diligence reporting.
Beyond her research, Lauren has a wide range of interests that inform her work, including military history, political philosophy, and human behaviour.
She is fluent in French and English, with basic understandings of Russian and Spanish.
