MIGS Publishes New Policy Brief on Global Health and Strategic Security
The Montreal Institute for Global Security is pleased to publish the policy brief “Global Health as Strategic Security: Why Canada Should Lead on Health Financing in a Disordered World”, authored by MIGS Senior Fellows Balkan Devlen and Jonathan Berkshire Miller, and MIGS Executive Director Kyle Matthews.
The policy brief argues that global health challenges are increasingly linked to national and international security, highlighting how pandemics, supply chain disruptions, and weakened health systems can create strategic vulnerabilities for Canada and its allies. It calls for Canada to treat global health financing as a strategic investment that strengthens resilience, reduces risk, and reinforces international cooperation in an increasingly uncertain geopolitical environment.
At a time when major donors are reducing development assistance for health and multilateral institutions face growing pressure, the authors outline how Canadian leadership can help shape more effective and accountable global health financing mechanisms.
