MIGS Releases New Report on Beijing’s Interference Operations Across the G7

The Montreal Institute for Global Security is pleased to announce the release of its new report, Guarding the G7: Countering Beijing’s Interference Operations.

Written by Marie Lamensch and Kyle Matthews, the report examines how the Chinese Communist Party conducts foreign influence and interference activities across G7 democracies through the United Front Work Department and a broad network of affiliated organizations and intermediaries operating across political, economic, academic, media, and societal sectors.

Drawing on open-source research, expert interviews, parliamentary inquiries, and intelligence assessments, the report analyzes patterns of elite co-optation, diaspora mobilization, media influence, transnational repression, and strategic economic engagement across Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan.

The report highlights the growing challenge posed by foreign interference operations to democratic institutions, social cohesion, and national security across the G7, while outlining policy recommendations aimed at strengthening democratic resilience and coordinated responses among allies.
