Terence McNamee

Dr. Terence McNamee is a specialist in geo-politics, security and development. Educated in his native Canada and the UK, he completed a doctorate at the London School of Economics on South Africa’s nuclear weapons program. For more than two decades he led research initiatives and shaped strategy sessions at leading think tanks on two continents – the Royal United Services Institute in London and The Brenthurst Foundation in Johannesburg – that drew presidents, generals and global CEOs. From 2018-2024 he was a Global Fellow of The Wilson Center in Washington, DC. Terence has considerable front-line experience in fragile states, from Afghanistan to Malawi, assisting governments in democratic consolidation, governance and stabilisation efforts, including as in-country adviser to a head of state. Terence has delivered presentations in more than 40 countries and published opinion pieces in major international press, including The New York Times and The Financial Times, plus longer works from scholarly essays and compendiums to an internationally acclaimed popular history.
